The Greater Katy Area Women’s Club (GKAWC) was founded in 1979 as Welcome Wagon of Katy. On November 6, 2018, the club voted to change the name of the organization to GKAWC.
We are a 501(c)7 nonprofit social club guided by a set of bylaws that is overseen by an elected board of directors. The board ensures that all activities align with our primary purpose, which is to gather for fun, friendship, community information, and to support area charities. Annual membership dues are $20 (Sept-May). We do not sanction soliciting funds to support any business, charitable, political or religious causes at any of our meetings, luncheons, or other social activities/events.
Our demographics are women that are retired professionals, teachers, healthcare workers, business owners, and executives; some still work, operate their businesses, or volunteer in our local community. Our women have amazing energy to give, time to share, foster friendships, and the desire to have fun and enjoy life. We pride ourselves on connecting women, building enduring friendships, and enriching our members through a variety of social activities, coffees and luncheons every month.
We offer a multitude of activities every month from September - May with the majority that recur on the same day each month, and are held from the late morning to the early afternoon. Members can do as much or as little as they want. We have an online signup process to participate in all club activities which is required so that activity leads can ensure proper accommodations are made.
A charity is selected annually, and to support this, we hold small fundraisers for those who wish to participate through our charity raffles that take place at our monthly coffees and luncheons.
We publish a monthly newsletter June – September that provides highlights from recent board meetings and information on all upcoming activities. We have a private Facebook group; however, all formal communications come through our monthly newsletters and/or separate emails from the board. We also publish an Information Booklet/Directory every year in October that provides information about our activities, our members, and our bylaws. Our booklet is available to all active members at no cost.
